Nagano "OWL" Hats

Special thanks again to Mary Grace and her mom for lending me such silly headgear and providing me with such a fun designing opportunity!

Materials: worsted weight yarn (I would recommend Berrocos Ultra Alpaca), 1 skein Main Color, 1 skein Contrast Color and some remnants of bright yellow and black for the eyes.

Gauge: 5 stitches = 1 inch

Needles: size 6 and 7, or sizes needed to obtain gauge Tapestry needle

Instructions: With Main Color and smaller size needles, cast on 55 stitches.

- Starting with a purl stitch, work in purl 1, knit 1 ribbing for 5 rows.

- Switch to larger needles, and, working in Stockinette stitch, follow rows 1-52 of the chart of your choice, switching to your Contrast Color where indicated, and understanding that the yellow and black eyes will be duplicate stitched onto the hat after it is knitted.

- Work a further 52 rows using just your Contrast Color.

- Switch back to your smaller needles and work 5 more rows in purl 1, knit 1 ribbing. Bind off.

- Using yellow yarn, duplicate stitch eyes where indicated on chart (and small beak too, if needed).

- Using black yarn, whip stitch a pupil in the center of each yellow eye.

- Using main color, sew side seams of hat.

- Whoooooo looks adorable now? You do!!!
