NOODLE HAT

Thank you to my friend Gail Vara for lending me her sample and introducing me to this super-fun stitch! She made the hat for her grand-daughter, but its stretchy, so on me it fits just fine. I still need to play around with the pattern to size it for an adult or a babybut you would follow your noodling instructions the same way.

Materials: 1 skein worsted-weight yarn (I used Plymouth Encore). 16 circular needles and double-pointed needles, size 8.

Instructions: Cast on 80 stitches. Join work into a circle, being careful not to twist your stitches. Work in knit, 1, purl 1 ribbing for 5 rounds.

 - Begin noodle round: Knit 1. Purl 1. Bring yarn forward and fold about a six- inch piece in half over your finger to form a 3 long loop. Twist this loop around your finger several times until it becomes tight on your fingertip, then fold the loop in half again to form a mini twisted cord. Take the loop from the twisted cord that was on your fingertip and place it on the left-hand needle. Knit it together with the next stitch. (Whew! That was tricky, but with practice, youll get it)! *Purl 1. Knit 1. Purl 1. Work the Noodle Stitch. Repeat from * around. Work in Knit 1, purl 1 ribbing for 3 rounds.

- Next round: *Work the Noodle Stitch. Purl 1. Knit 1. Purl 1. Repeat from * around.

- Repeat these last 5 rounds until work is approximately 6long from cast-on edge, ending with a round 5.

- Decrease round: Keeping in knit 1, purl 1 ribbing, work 6 stitches, knit 2 together around. (70 stitches). - Work 2 rounds in knit 1, purl 1 ribbing.

- Work Noodle round: Knit 1. Purl 1. * Work the Noodle Stitch. Purl 1. Knit 1. Purl 1. repeat from * around. (Your ribbing may be off now in some places because of your decreases, but just do the best you can).

- Work 2 rounds in knit 1, purl 1 ribbing.

- Decrease round: Keeping in knit 1, purl 1 ribbing, work 3 stitches, knit 2 together around. (56 stitches).

- Work one round in knit 1, purl 1 ribbing. (Ribbing may look really goofed-up at this pointjust keep going).

- Decrease round: Knit 2 together around. (28 stitches).

- Work 1 round in knit 1, purl 1 ribbing.

- Decrease round : Knit 2 together around. (14 stitches).

- Work 1 round in knit 1, purl 1 ribbing.

- Decrease round: Knit 2 together around. (7 stitches).

- Cut yarn leaving a 10 tail. Thread tail through remaining stitches, pull tight and secure.

- Go eat some noodles...you've earned them!!!
