Materials: Debbie Bliss Alpaca Silk yarn, one ball each white and pink.
Needles: circular and double pointed, size 8
Gauge: 16 stitches and 22 rows to 4 inches Size: ages 3-6 months
Directions: With circular needle and white yarn, cast on 56 sts using picot cast-on as follows: * cast on 3 sts, cast off 1 st, slip stitch now on right needle back onto left needle ( 2 sts on left needle), repeat from * until there are 56 sts on left needle. This will form a scalloped bottom edge for the hat. Join work into a round being careful not to twist your stitches, and work in Stockinette stitch until hat measures 4 inches from the cast on edge.
Shape top, switching to double pointed needles when necessary 1st decrease row: (k2tog, knit 5) 8 times(48 sts). Knit 2 rows.
2nd decrease row: (k2tog, knit 4) 8 times(40 sts). Knit 2 rows.
3rd decrease row: (k2tog, knit 3) 8 times(32 sts). Knit 1 row.
4th decrease row: (k2tog, knit 2) 8 times(24 sts). Knit 1 row.
5th decrease row: (k2tog, knit 2) 8 times(18 sts). Last decrease row: k2tog to the end(9sts). Break yarn, thread through remaining sts, pull up and secure. .
Bunny Ears (make 2): Cast on 12 sts with the white, then directly following, cast on 10 sts with the pink.
Row 1 (right side): Purl 10 sts of pink, knit 12 sts of white.
Row 2 (wrong side): Purl 12 sts of white, knit 10 sts of pink. Repeat in this manner for 12 rows total. Be sure to twist the two yarns when switching colors so you dont end up with a large gap in your work.
Decrease row 1: With pink, p2tog, purl 6, p2tog, then with white k2tog, knit 8, k2tog. Row 2: work in pattern with no decreases (knit the knit stitches and purl the purl stitches). Continue these 2 rows until there is 1 pink stitch left and 2 white stitches left. Cut the pink yarn leaving about 5 inches of tail and pull that yarn through the remaining stitch to end that section. Cut the white yarn leaving about 12 inches of tail. Thread the tail through a needle and pull through the last two white stitches. Use the long tail of white to sew up the side seam of ear. Fold the bottom of each ear in half so that the pink sits inside the white outer ear and sew the bottom seam so that the ear stays folded. Attach the topmost corner of each ear bottom approximately 5 rows from the top of the hat and continue sewing the bottom of the ear along two of the seams created by the decreases in the hat. Give to your honey bunny!!!
