Placek
Just like some bakers like to make and give away fruitcakes at Christmastime, nothing says Happy Easter in my family like the giving and receiving of Placek. (Pronounced Plat-sek--Its a coffee cake loaded with crumbs on top and raisins in the middle --always served on Easter Sunday. I prefer to slice mine thick, put it in the toaster, and then eat it slathered with butter!) I m sharing three of our familys Placek recipes with you now be sure to bake some up and share them with your friends and family!
Corn & Potato Chowder
I am sorry that this recipe has taken me ages to put up on the sight, fortunately the death threats have finally stopped! This is the famous dinner party corn and potato chowder recipe. Like Penn and Teller, I will divulge all my secrets so you can make a great soup! I used fresh corn from Eden (of course) and smoked bacon from my friend Doug Babcock who owns the Village Smokehouse in Orchard Park. If you like smoked meats, you won't find any finer ANYWHERE! This recipe is not too difficult and the results taste like you labored in the kitchen for hours! Enjoy!--Tony K.
Orange-Pecan French Toast Casserole
Rumor has it that this may be the best french toast recipe around. It's kind of like a sticky-bun and french toast all in one. Best of all, you can make it the night before so you aren't trapped in the kitchen all morning while your guests are relaxing and drinking all of your coffee. Enjoy!--Tony K.
Old Fashioned Lemon Pudding
This is definately a recipe alot of you may remember your grandmother's making when you were a child. Before the time of instant Jello pudding, it was possible to make pudding without any secret magical ingredients that only the Jello corporation knows about. This pudding is easy to make and tastes alot like a home-made lemon meringue pie, though you do have to bake it. It won't be ready in five minutes, but it's worth the wait. Enjoy!--Tony K.
Potato Salad with Asparagus & Red Pepper
You know it's springtime when the asparagus starts popping up out of the ground and shows up at the farmer's market. Here is a recipe that cleverly uses asparagus in a most delicious way. Hey Kelly, sorry it took so long to put this one on the site! Enjoy!--Tony K.
Amanda's Chicken-n-Dumplings
Miss Amanda had passed along this recipe to us quite a while ago. It almost seemed too easy to be true. I have to admit, I was a bit skeptical as I was making it, but I resisted the urge to add anything else. The result, it was delicious! If you're short on time, you could probably use a roasted chicken from Wegmans and storebought stock. I hope you like this one---it's good old fashioned comfort food that even the kids will love! Enjoy!--Tony K.
Sophie and Emmett's Very Merry Hot Cocoa Mix
Sophie and Emmett gave this as their teacher gifts this year, so it must be good. Would we jeopardize our children's education on account of a lousy gift! Enjoy!--Tony K.
Grammy Barb's Crockpot Mac & Cheese
Deliciously easy mac and cheese recipe that everyone will think you slaved over!--Tony K.
Grammy Chris' Pineapple, Sausage & Meatballs
This recipe is apparently one from Erin's fond childhood memories of her parents entertaining prowess. Everyone loved this the LAST time, lets make it again... and again...and again.... You get the picture. Ahhh, how nostalgia makes things taste good again! We made it for the superbowl and it was as good as Erin remembered!--Tony K.
Pineapple Upside down Cake
The World famous Grandma Genevieve's Pineapple Upside-down cake recipe has been coveted by many, now here it is...for FREE!!! Your welcome--Tony K.
Erin and Kelly's Cupcakes
Erin needs to do this blurb. I'm tired and in need of a relaxing frosty beverage. Like the magic eight ball says: Try again later! --Tony K.
